I was actually interested when I first heard they were making a new Simcity, but nope. Shitty DRM means no buy.

I could have sworn that they brought up that it wasn't actually always online before, and that the non-online play was just more limited as a result?

Regardless, I don't like the idea of forcing online play. Not everybody has a steady net connection, and not everybody wants an online experience. Forcing online for a game that shouldn't really need it is a bad move IMO.

They did an AMA on reddit not that long ago and some of the top rated comments were about the always online DRM. As far as I'm aware, nothing official was said about previous games' "lonely experience". They also left out any question pertaining to that subject when they highlighted questions from the AMA on their own site.

Exactly, I agree with their reason for adding online but that still doesn't make it right for them to take the option of offline play away from those who want it. Especially for a series thats been a predominately single player affair. Its unnecessary and possibly harmful to some peoples' experience, such as a parent buying it for their child thats uncomfortable with him/her playing online.

ok so i don't really like drm's myself but i think everyone is getting a little blined by them if maxis has a view of making their game multiplayer through a drm dont shoot it down thats cool. I like the idea of having other mayors or players if you will next to my city building. Thats a cool new approach to have with sims. But everyone gets stuck on these drms i agree to a degree that if i wanted to play single player there should not have to be internet. But i plan on getting into a region and playing with other mayors.

And then this would fall into yet another case of intrusive DRM being countered with more piracy? The solution?

MOAR INTRUSIVE DRM! Or at least that's what braindead companies like EA will do. I'm not one to promote piracy but I hope this gets cracked and torrented weeks before release. Not that it would change anything, EA's policy involves using one solution for everything.

So, what do you reckon? Not all folks have an internet connection or good/reliable internet connection to play Sim...Developers need to taken into account of that!

they will crack it of course and the more intrusive drm gets the more determined people will be to crack it

good drm isn't cracked nearly as much.the good way to beat piracy its to offer a service which is better than the pirate's service eg netflix and steam

Regardless of what they are claiming, I will never support this type of online DRM. And that is what it is, DRM.

When Ubisoft started doing it, I stop buying their games. And I stuck to that position until they stopped doing it. I just recently purchased Assassins Creed 2 now that it can be played without the always on DRM, it is great to finally play it.

My position with Simcity will be the same, which is unfortunate because I have always been a big fan of the Simcity franchise. I don't have a problem with having the option of going online, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

Things like this only hurt the customer, especially from a gaming on the go stand point. Wifi connections aren't always available, particularly when you find yourself with some free time when you are out and about.

EA needs to pull their heads out of their butts and realize people don't want stuff like this.
