Oh, Professor Layton, how is it you manage to remain go charming and gentlemanly, despite knowing that Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies is your final game where you're the protagonist. Of course, I wouldn't expect it any other way. Still, this latest Japanese trailer for Azran Legacies, cheerful and full of puzzles as usual, is oddly melancholy knowing it's the last of the Layton series in its current form.
It won't be Professor Layton's first foray onto the 3DS, that was reserved for Miracle Mask, and it likely won't be the franchise's last. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies will, however, be the final chapter in the second Layton trilogy and has been confirmed to be the last game where he plays the protagonist. As always, the game itself look great, tying plot and puzzle together in more immersive ways than ever.
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies is currently only announced for Japanese release, of course, slated for February 28. Hopefully we'll see it localized before the end of 2013. It's odd thinking this is Layton's last starring role, but even odder to think we'll have heard what direction the franchise is going in afterwards before we even get to play this final chapter. Sigh.
