NO.

THIS LIST IS ALL WRONG. WHERE IS THE INNOVATIVE AND ORIGINAL RESIDENT EVIL 6? WHERE IS THE TOTALLY NEW AND IMPROVED GAME THAT DARE SHAKE THINGS UP BLACK OPS 2? WHERE IS THE AMAZING 9/10 EPICNESS THAT IS DMmC EVEN THOUGH IT COMES OUT 2013 I DON'T CARE? WHERE ARE THE EA GAMES? WHERE ARE THE MOUNTAIN DEW GAMES? GRAFAFASDFASFD

Halo can stay, everything else must go. If redemption want's his big fat check to keep this site going he better knock some sense into his editors and accept. my Capom, EA, Squeenix, Konami, Activisions. bribes.

Geoff Keighley should also be on that list.

You win best top 10 list just because of this. Dota 2 is the most played game for 2012 for me and I'm hoping more lists include it once it becomes a "real" release.

The only thing that stands out to me is the "may never be as popular as League of Legends". I don't think that to be true, truth be told dota 2 might boast more current active users than LoL already (not that its released from Riot only valve is transparent with the numbers). I've seen peaks over 340k players at a time and its still growing. I would be shocked if in a year from now Dota2 isn't twice as played as LoL. But I'm a little bias so who knows, maybe i'm wrong.

I wouldn't trust the numbers of either. But just from my personal experience with their matchmaking, Dota2's queues are so much longer than LoL's it gets to the point I don't want to play simply because of the waiting.

As far as difficulty, the things listed come in just about every team-oriented game. In truth, difficulty in Dota2 is coming to understand it's dated mechanics, a multitude of things you'll never find out just blindly playing the game. It gets to the point where the people I play with don't enjoy the game because of these things, and quite frankly, the community stinks so if you don't have people to play it with you won't enjoy it.

I'm not going to say a game's bad and I was really hyped for it myself, it's just a game that's really hard for me to suggest to anyone.

LoL averages 3 million copies current players (July 2012) while Dota is sitting at most at 1/10th of that. It will definitely grow more once KT reaches an official release, but it has a ways to grow to take on LoL properly.

Dude LoL is the one with dated mechanics.

No creep spawning, no day and night cycles, no elevation, cant support muiltiple pets with skills and their own inventorys, dota has better graphics etc, etc. Hell, the DOTA 1 engine is even more advanced than Riots. If Riot but 1/5th of their effort into the map they put in with the gimmicky hero purchase/ riot point shit you guys would have something closer to DOTA.

My que times are an average of 3 mins and I truely believe there are less young 'uns playing DOTA. Not to mention its not even out yet, the game is going to go supernova I already have all my LoLfriends addicted to it.

It is the most played game on steam 2x more players than TF2 itself. LoL has a huge player base free and easy games tend to own that, but if you're into DOTA likes you shouldn't be playing LoL or Hon because there is significantly less content and you have to grind farm/ be in denial to play all the heroes.

I never said LoL didn't have dated mechanics. Although, why should I even bother, you clearly didn't read what I wrote. It's about mechanics making Dota2 difficult. There's more artificial difficulty in the jungle, creep aggros, heroes having different attack and casting animations and I could go on and on. Also, some of those aren't even mechanics like graphics has nothing to do with this, and if we just listed differences in the games we'd get nowhere- LoL has things dota doesn't and vice versa.

I'm not sure how the hero purchase is 'gimmicky'. You realize Dota2 uses a similar feature for it's cosmetics right? How else do you think these companies will stay in business? It's silly to say that.

Dota2 is extremely popular with the Russian community, if you queue up around their time you'll get a minute queue, I'm sure. It's also extremely easy to get invites for a 'game that's not even out yet' (which is dumb to be saying, because as said in this article, Valve doesn't consider it a beta). I have around 7+. If people want to play it and don't have the game already, they're doing something horribly wrong. You can even buy it now.

Did you really just say artificial difficulty? Am I being trolled?

Whatevs not sure if you're trolling or not, but ill enjoy DOTA and you can enjoy paying for heroes. Fine with me, Don't want to get into this right now.

Yes? Do you not know what that means?

And for what it's worth, I play both. Keep implying that I only play LoL and am fanboying only over it, I find your ignorance and inability to read hilarious.

(Also, technically you have to pay for Dota2's heroes currently, unless you can get an easily obtained invite. It's 30$ to buy the 'beta' on Steam.)

Pretty much anyone can obtain a free invite now, you just need to know the right places to ask.

Good to see Dota 2 nominated, I have enjoyed playing it since I started a few weeks back.

Although it's easy to get a Dota 2 invite, people just don't know where to look nor are they interested in paying $30 for it. There are always posts on Reddit where people are being for invites when there is also a full subreddit just for giving them away.
