When I first saw the headline "Dead Space 3 Kinect trailer" I envisioned Isaac with a mining laser on his hand which I might karate chop through Necromorph limbs. It was not meant to be, however. This latest Dead Space 3 trailer is focused on showing off the various ways the previously announced voice commands can be used with the Kinect.
The commands shown in the trailer, focused mainly on cooperative play, include:
- "Use Stasis"
- "Quick Heal"
- "Find Objective"
- "Find Partner"
- "Revive Partner"
- "Give Partner Ammo"
- "Reload Weapon"
- "Switch Weapon"
Dead Space 3 will also feature implementation for a variety of languages and dialects as well.
While I suppose there isn't any inherent problem with including voice commands in any and every game, Dead Space really seems like the last game I'd want them in. I suppose this just reflects on the controversy we've already gone over about the need of co-op in the first place, so I won't bore you. I like to play scary games in quiet settings, isolated from the world. But that's not the sort of game Dead Space 3 is now, is it?
Dead Space 3 is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 starting February 5. Expect the Kinect voice command features to be included in the Xbox 360 version at launch. Also, make sure to check out the demo on January 22.
