There's always been a question in my mind: do the artists for God of War conceptualize the environment with or without the hundreds of corpses? Today, with a neat dozen environmental pieces of concept art for God of War: Ascension being released, we know the truth. No corpses. That must be stage 2 of the creative process at Sony Santa Monica.
In all seriousness, this concept art is almost more depressing due to its colorful and charming nature. I hate to presume what location some of this art represents, but we know God of War: Ascension is a prequel that helps define the origin of anti-hero Kratos' rage. Needless to say, bad things happen at these places. No spoilers, but fans of the franchise will know what specific event I'm thinking of.
In addition to the colorful marketplaces, there are plenty of dark and daunting temples or fortresses as well. Giant goats' heads, spiky chains and desiccated, broken cities. Bad things happened in these haunting, empty places. Bad things are likely in store to happen once more, too. God of War: Ascension is scheduled for release March 12, 2013 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Don't forget to bring a friend.
