Peter Molyneux and 22Cans' Kickstarter project GODUS hasn't been the runaway success he was hoping for. Despite the seemingly huge demand for indie simulation games at the moment, Molyneux's reputation and the belief that he should be funding the project himself have brought the project to the brink. With three days and £75,000 left remaining, 22Cans have released a prototype video for one last run at their £450,000 goal.
While it's only been in development for two week, I find it difficult not to find the GODUS prototype particularly interesting. The layered landscape and land manipulation, combined with AI controlled population growth and expansion is just... awesome. If such a beautiful visual style, that seemingly randomly generated, can be created in just two weeks, imagine what they can do in months?
Still, it's worrisome that the project is so close to its end date and is quite a ways away from its goal. Hopefully this look at what 22Cans wants to make out of GODUS helps persuade folk that this is a game worth investing in, and that the studio is worth trusting to develop it. Then again, maybe it's a lost cause, but that would be unfortunate in my eyes.
GODUS, if it achieves its Kickstarter goal, will be released for PC, Mac, iOS and Android in 2013. Check out GODUS' Kickstarter page for more information.
