Perhaps you haven't been around for a few years, but Minecraft is a pretty big deal around these parts -- and by parts I mean everywhere. Big enough, even, to have its very own documentary, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, capturing the rise of developer Mojang and its indie founder Markus "Notch" Persson. The doc's first screening will go live for Xbox LIVE Gold members on December 22 at 5PST. The rest of you heathens can watch it a day later on December 23.
Featuring interviews with industry personalities like Tim Schafer, Gabe & Tycho from Penny-Arcade and... Stephen Totilo from Kotaku... Minecraft: The Story of Mojang should be mandatory viewing for most gamers. Considering its being filmed by 2 Player Productions, the same folk cataloging the development of Double Fine's Adventure!, it should be great just from a cinematic point of view. After, all, not every loves Minecraft for the sake of Minecraft.
Minecraft: The Story of Mojang's production took place across almost two years. The sheer amount of footage it must have taken to create this film must be astonishing. Whether the movie proves a true look into the development of one of this decade's most significant games, or rather a look into the people behind -- if there's even a difference -- this will be one movie to look out for.
