Tecmo Koei pleased with Samurai Warriors popularity on 3DS, likely more on the way
More of the same thing you've always loved, apparently
Love the Warriors games? Well, you're not the only one. Samurai Warriors Chronicles for 3DS has apparently been doing pretty dang well, and Tecmo Koei is so tickled pink by the reception that they're promising more Samurai Warriors for the handheld. Yes, more.
Back when the game launched in Japan back in February as a 3DS launch title, it sold almost 50,000 its debut week. By the end of 2011, that number jumped to 146,517 units. So really, not too bad. An English version landed in North America and Europe in March, a month or so after the initial Japanese release.
A few months ago in September, Tecmo Koei release Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd, but it was more of an enhanced version than an actual sequel, throwing in added features on top of the original game. Despite not even being a full title, Chronicles 2nd sold almost 34,000 copies its first week (again, in Japan). Series producer Hisashi Koinuma claims that sales continue to go up.
He thanked fans via Twitter, stating that given a bit more sales, Tecmo Koei will start working on the next title. Says Koinuma:
"I cannot begin to express how overjoyed I am that [Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd] has continued to sell to the year’s end. Thank you! Just a bit more in sales, and we can start thinking about the next game, so please keep at it!”
Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 3rd, perhaps?
Recently, Chronicles 2nd was released to the Nintendo eShop as a downloadable title, marked lower than its retail form.
