I'm very happy that The Walking Dead won. Admittedly, I haven't played any of the other four games that were nominated but that game was surprisingly powerful.

Ironically enough, everyone I know is psyched about it winning. There's 2 sides to every coin. You're just on the wrong one.

If there's any one reason why TWD should not have won Game of the year, it would be because it's not a *bleep*ing game. At best it's an interactive movie. Good story, not great. Choices have no real impact, so the one mechanic it has going for it meant nothing. TBH, none of the games, barring Dishonored, should have been nominated.

lol the walking dead beat dishonored?
seems legit.

It's also pretty stupid that sound shapes beat gravity rush, but hey, I don't work for spike
I love both Dishonored and Walking Dead, but no way in hell Walking Dead should have won.

The nominees are chosen and voted by the chief editors of some of the major gaming websites (IGN, Gametrailers, etc), Spike just puts the production together.

It's just one award show. It's really not that big of a deal.

Not sure about nominees but people voted on it. It was up on their website. I only know because I voted in the best fighter category.
EDIT: Nevermind it was only picks. The onyl category that as voted on was Character of the Year.

Dishonored is a poor man's Thief. I'm glad something as obscure as a story driven adventure game won. Everybody should be tbfh

Sometimes Spike just makes bad choices. I knew nothing I wanted to win would win, so I'm not that disappointed.

But I AM disappointed that two of my favorite games this year, Starhawk and Transformers: FoC, didn't even get nominated for anything.

I was too tired to even notice she said "Gary" lol. That's what staying up until 3am does just to watch some Video Game Awards that I could have easily just watched in the morning. >_<

Somewhat annoyed at some of the results, such as Walking Dead winning GOTY. It was good but I thought that maybe other games were more deserving *cough*AC3 and FC3*cough*. So glad a Call of Duty game didn't get it though. As you'd also expect from me, I'm saddened that Assassin's Creed III won no awards. I never played Halo 4 but from watching videos on youtube and watching friends play it, I preferred the graphics to AC3 over that. Also, Haytham should have been a nominee for Best Character, he was far more robust than Connor was. >_>

Never the less, really happy with some of them! Journey deserved every single award it got and hands down, HL2 had to be GOTD.

The choices don't have a real impact in terms of swinging the story in completely new directions for each player. However, the choices do have an affect on the emotions felt at key points in the game imo. The game is very emotionally-driven and that is also why I don't think the responses about it 'being just another zombie game' are fair. The end results aren't the only thing that matter. The experiences that get you there in the first place matter too.

Edit: 1000th post.

For all of the games that came out this year, their nominee list is quite short...

Transformers should have at the very least been nominated for something.

And imo Journey should have won more awards.

The end results very well should matter. Letting one character die has no meaning for these "experiences" when a second character, the other option serves an identical purpose or when the character ultimately dies anyway moments later. The experience barely changes.
