Dishonored's Dunwall City Trials DLC is about skill challenges, despite bloody massacre of a trailer
The Outsider's realm beckons
Most Dishonored players have likely been very impatiently waiting for any sort of DLC from Arkane Studios. Beyond the initial preorder DLC that improved a player's abilities, the game's first post-release DLC will be Dunwall City Trials, to be released December 11. It's not story-based DLC (rage), but it will include 10 challenge levels and a leaderboard that measures a player's skill in stealth, mobility and combat. Hell. Yes. Time to see who the true master assassin is.
I can't count how many times I absolutely blew through an area only to turn around and realize I'd just narrowly avoided two dozen soldiers and tallboys. Then I'd ask myself, "Am I greatest assassin ever?" and then I'd mistime a jump and fall to my death. The point is, I never had a method of measurement for my assassin abilities and it's exciting to finally get that opportunity.
It's also a great opportunity for Arkane Studios' level designers to detach a level from lore and narrative and truly make a 100% gameplay focused adventure. Set in the Outsider realm, each level is certain to be unique and built for adventure . Hopefully they even split certain challenges into specific designs for stealth and combat, so players are forced to step out of their comfort zone and try out gameplay they might have missed before.
A holiday present for Dishonored fans is on its way. The Dunwall City Trials DLC will be released December 11 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for the low cost of $4.99 (400MSP). Below we've got a trailer for the DLC, which to be honest doesn't represent the goals of the DLC, methinks. It's full of stabbing dudes and setting up crazy traps, which upon further thought is probably a better selling point. That's why I don't do marketing!
