North American Nintendo Direct is over, Fire Emblem: Awakening release date is Feb. 4

Not surprisingly, a majority of the North American Nintendo Direct covers the same material that the Japanese version from this morning did. Quick looks of LEGO Undercover, Pikmin 3 and Game & Wario were highlights of the Wii U side of the presentation (look for trailers as we get them), along with the introduction of a couple of new apps that work in interesting ways with the GamePad. These two apps are Panoramic View and Google Maps and work intuitively, as in you move the GamePad around you and the camera moves similarly. Oddly, the only major difference I noticed between the two streams was the addition of Wii Fit U for North America and its wireless token that counts calories. Hmm.

Different from the Japanese Nintendo Direct is the addition of a 3DS section, and this may be just what Nintendo fans are looking forward to. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Fire Emblem: Awakening were both teased. Okay, so Fire Emblem was more than teased -- it will be released in North America on February 4. Afterwards, a couple of quirky eShop games were shown, Tokyo Crash Mobs in particular was ... special. 

Then, Reggie Fils-Aime closed it out and we'll have to wait until maybe January for more Nintendo news. Sorry, Animal Crossing fans, no news today. Update: Err, okay. So the European Nintendo Direct is saying to expect Animal Crossing: New Leaf in Q2 2013! Hooray!
