Rumor: Yoshi's Island Wii U retail listing hatches, the dinosaur is back
We ain't talking Baby Mario here, either
Just after the Wii U launched an Internet detective broke into the console's debug menu and discovered a reference to Yoshi's Island Wii U. The unannounced Wii U title was quickly dismissed by Nintendo, who cited the debug menu as a "mockup" of no consequence. The Internet, being a trusting bunch, accepted Nintendo's explanation straight away -- until now. Online retail listings on Best Buy and Future Shop now also reference this Yoshi's Island Wii U title, and I'm heartbroken because Nintendo hasn't been truthful
Get a load of this, though -- Yoshi's Island Wii U is being listed as a full-scale title with HD graphics. Here's the full text from Best Buy:
"Take Yoshi on an epic adventure to remember in Yoshi Land for Nintendo Wii U. Check out Yoshi as you've never seen him before: in glorious high definition. Enjoy dual-screen control thanks to the Wii U Touchscreen GamePad, while you'll also be able to experience full integration with Nintendo's MiiVerse service."
There are several things that can be speculated upon here, namely that it's clear Yoshi's Island Wii U is a full retail game and not a downloadable title or a re-release of old Yoshi's Island games. Well, I suppose there's the possibility of an HD compilation of classic Yoshi's Island titles, but that's doubtful. For instance, the addition of Wii U functionality seems more appropriate for a new release.
A lack of Mario is the sale's pitch could portend a shift in gameplay, too. Considering the complete absence of any details any gameplay speculation is entirely too presumptuous. For instance, there's no mention of 2D or 3D, no eggs, no Baby Mario, no anything really. Just Yoshi "as you've never seen him before."
Keep in mind Nintendo will be doing a Direct Connect event this December. Last year's was on December 26 and it wouldn't be surprising for them to do something similar this year. The day after Christmas when kids are out spending their money, then Nintendo announces a few new games and kids go wild -- it's a great marketing tool. Will Yoshi's Island Wii U be announced? Who knows, but it seem to be as good a candidate as any.

the...awesomeness... is... OVERWHELMING!!!!
OH YISSSS.
This is great news!
Always enjoyed the Yoshi games. HD isn't a big selling point for me though; just looking forward to the new levels. ^^ 3D would be pretty huge, however.
Though you could say there were hints at it when a Yoshi icon appeared in the Nintendo Direct on Miiverse (though it was most likely just a place-holder).
STILL. Imagine this. (Hand-drawn?) pastel style 2D graphics in HD. The original Yoshi's Island is one of the greatest games of all time and I'd be surprised if this game (provided these rumours are true) doesn't end up being an essential Wii U purchase.
