Lone-wolf mercenary Deathstroke to tear through the roster of Injustice: Gods Among Us
13 of 20 heroes and villains currently announced
The thirteenth and obviously luckiest addition to the Injustice: Gods Among Us roster has been announced: Deathstroke. That mercenary-assassin with a robust arsenal, heightened abilities and tactical genius that can and has defeated the strongest of super heroes is joining the roster of NetherRealm's latest and greatest fighting game. He's taken on the Justice League single handedly and only barely lost (who stabs a guy in the eye, Green Arrow), so one on one combat should be a breeze.
Deathstroke's introduction video has him firing guns, swinging his sword and general just kicking ass. I don't think it's unfair, however, to say that Deathstroke feels a bit out of place. The man can certainly go face to face with any superhero, there's no doubt about that, but Deathstroke's greatest strength and the best part of reading his stories is his tactical prowess. His preparation, his tactical advantage, and his generally flawless execution are what makes Deathstroke strong and I'm curious to see if NetherRealm can convey that through gameplay. Needless to say, I'm skeptical, and fear he'll simply be a badass ninja with guns -- which is still great, but a bit underwhelming.
Joining the Joker, Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy, Deathstroke is the thirteenth roster member, but only the fourth announced villain of Injustice: Gods Among Us. With 20-30 total roster slots available, you know NetherRealm has got to be cooking up some surprises for the weeks to come. Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled for an April, 2013 release date on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U.
