A number of leaked materials for Bungie's upcoming sci-fi game Destiny have popped up, and since the leak, the studio has confirmed the legitimacy of the assets and information.
According to a document drafted by an ad agency for the game, the premise of Destiny revolves around the Last City on Earth, 700 years in the future. Man's Golden Age has past, and mysterious aliens have arrived to serve as our protectors. Yeah, didn't see that coming, huh?
“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.”
The document also refers to the ship as "The Traveler." According to Bungie co-founder Jason Jones, the studio designed Destiny for "your inner seven-year-old," like a "mythic adventure." Bungie is apparently trying to create a new universe as deep and rich as the Star Wars franchise.
