Might be kind of late to share my thoughts here, but i felt the need for it.

Seeing that no one praised the magical xilophone music of the wounded coast, the very mystic loading screens and the gritty theme of the whole city Kirkwall, im quite surprised, nobody interested in these mood-defining settings?
Ive never been so fond of areas in DA:O, as i was for the Wounded coast and Sundermount. They were totally like, came out from those really old 70's 80's fantasy settings!

Of course the story was linear, the maps were few and the choices been watered down, but the feel of the dark fantasy setting just became stronger in this game, as if DA series finally claimed a style for their own.
Which i hope they continue, with newly added elements.

Not sure if you guys played the Neverwinter series by the same company, but DA:O felt more like a really bad clone of that franchise to me.

Not to mention the combat system in DA:O was completely uninteresting, while in DA2 i could create whatever combination i wanted, be it an indomitable-voodoo mage or an offensive one-hander warrior.

I am prepared to be voted down and flamed, but i prefer DA II over origins, i have played my fair share of JRPG's and indie games and i can say with confidence Origins has a number of flaws, nameley the lack of a comprehensive map i played with the game for a couple of days and i couldnt find a "map" button so to speak, making me more confused as to where to go since i dint had like in zelda or Tales a world map to check where i am and what is close to me, or like avalon code where the map slowly filled itself when you went trough it, i got stuck and tired on the whole mission of the grey wardens, i hear praise left and right about it but i just felt origins to be bland, DA II was more to my liking due that you could forge your character personality and such.

For Anders, he is clearly an unstable person and after taking in a spirit that got a boost on his hatred he turned the justice onto vengance, which probably made him have a nasty unbalance, it doesnt justifies that you cant prevent the whole issue, anders starts acting suspicious and you have no way of impeding the great *bleep*ing mess of kirkwall, orsino and meredith fly of the rails and only make the situation worse.

Other thing i disliked about DA II was it's combat system, it dint matter what you did you would never could wipe with ease your enemies you only could take small chunks out of their life (even with some sets of the warrior that were suposed to deal massive DPS it was meh) which in turn made things like soloing the game less fun ( which i did despite everything and i had to do some real effort) and the repetitive dungeon.
I... actually agree with you on some of those points. And I'm willing to add a few more of my own, I liked that they proved with this that they could make a series about a world and not a single person in the modern market. I liked a smaller scale plot, not every fantasy rpg needs to be "An ancient evil has awakened, you have joined a secret society built to stop it."

I also liked 2's take on the dialogue wheel, it was substantially better than Mass Effect's niceguy, neutral, douchebag wheel. The honorable and forceful dialogue options had a lot in common with the niceguy and douchebag options but it had something like ten inclinations instead of three. And what's more, your favored choice also flavored your party banter and combat lines, that is a small but wonderful touch that is so much better than generic lines given outside of the morality wheel that give the character more depth. Or at least more potential for it.

It also gave a new option that was sorely needed in ME, being able to use your companions' capabilities and status. Is your Hawke a smooth talking roguish sort? No? Well then why not ask Varrick to talk down a potentially hostile situation you'd rather avoid? Got some mages who are wary of your intentions? Show they have your sympathy and support by bringing Bethany or Anders to the front and talking to them. You know, because you're a party and these guys shouldn't just sit back to only praise or condemn your actions while you are the sole member of a discussion.

Now, this doesn't have the sheer amount of choice that an unspoken dialogue list can give you, but it's a step towards it while still giving people who do like the voiced dialogue something more.

The game's not without its problems but I can't help but feel it gets more hate than it deserves simply because the devs dared to not make another clone of Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights.
