Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry missing from Steam UK shop, Ubisoft comments
Reasons left mysterious
Are you interested in Far Cry 3 and/or Assassin's Creed 3? Are you a PC Gamer that uses Steam as his primary shop? Do you live in the UK? If you answered yes to each of these questions, you are boned. Or, to put it more eloquently, you can't buy these games through Steam, and nobody will say exactly why, though there's plenty of speculation.
Ubisoft has stated it's "been in discussions with Valve" about the titles and that "for the time being" this the situation.
It's possible the issue is related to a trend that'd been going all earlier this year, in which all kinds of games were being witheld from the Steam UK shop due to a court ruling relating to used games (which Valve opposes, not wanting used digital games to become a thing). It's also speculated this could be another case of retailers putting pressure on publishers to prevent them from putting games on Steam, either temporarily or permanently.

I really wanted this on day of release too, I may buy the physical copy.
I can sort of tolerate Origin because it's at least a half decent Steam clone and does have a fair few exclusive franchises. A lot of people are on it too so it's not dead in the water. But Uplay as well? And just Ubisoft titles? It's getting ridiculous. If every publisher has their own digital distribution platform the market's going to get awfully convoluted down the line.
I will wait until the very last (December 24th) to get this game but I do have to have it by Christmas as tradition would dictate.
I hear it's all to do with GAME being demanding and not allowing Ubisoft to sell it on Steam so they can maximize physical boxed sales. I don't understand why GAME are still in such a strong position and still sway such a big publisher. When they didn't sell Mass Effect 3 the sales didn't suffer. If it's true that GAME are behind this I really don't see why Ubisoft would allow themselves to be dictated to.
