Mentioning the downfall of kickstarter was a premature assumption.

@ Nerius haha, premature, certainly, and I cop to that in the article. won't cop to an "assumption" though, as it's just healthy speculation based off some interesting evidence. after all, when one of the projects is redirecting $4 million out of Kickstarter, it's worth taking note.

So my biggest concern is will players be able to fly some of the larger ships? Will you be limited to only fighters? If so, then that does not seem very open ended : (

Oh and this game looks amazing. I want to become a video game designer and I only wish that I had some skills so that I may contribute to this universe. I am so excited!

Blade, you will be able to fly ships larger than fighters. However, due to game balance issues they probably won't let you full fly a carrier ( you can own one now that we've reached that stretch goal) since realistically it's too much for one person to fly, and would be far too powerful. You can still create your own server though, with free mod tools that CIG will release at launch, and fly a carrier as much as you want.

Michael is mostly correct,

They do have carrier class ships which can be owned by individual players, however they can be flown but they do require a crew to defend it from pirates as well as other players. They will end up being the guild/clan/squad base and will be extremely difficult to purchase without the help of a full guild/clan/squad. When I say expensive, I mean it, They were giving people the option to purchase them with real world money during the KickStarter for 1,000 USD.

You can only imagine the price in game!

You didn't get a carrier for a 1000$ pledge, "just" a frigate. And it's not just the ship, you get a lifetime insurance on it which means you can have it crashed as much as you want without any consequences for you ingame

Well, knowing that I can fly around in my own personal battleship means that this will hopefully be the best game evar. I'm really excited! XD

(btw, to the creators, PLEASE DO NOT make this game like the game EVE Online)

What I loved about that game is that it did have its huge moments and Star Wars like moments, but it was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to hard to do ANYTHING and learning how to fly bigger ships took literally MONTHS. (That doesn't include actually buying the ship.)

Please know, that all us space mmo players want, is an immersive experience, huge fast paced space battles, and able to experience this without having to invest our LIVES to it.

Roughly $4 of the $6 million came through the personal website
That first dollar sign makes this a little confusing...

bluexy I knew what you meant; just thought it was funny to think that only $4 was raised.
