Each time you modify the flash drive there's a risk of bricking. I would definitely plug the gamepad in when you go to apply this update, just to be on the safe side.

So much for all the "built-in" functionality. They've made no attempt to inform customers they will need to download most of their functionality on day 1. Still, TVii and the other video features have been delayed. This is most surprising since the backbone of the Wii U is connectivity and being the hub of your entertainment center. Kinda difficult to accomplish without the actual OS, in this case TVii.

Kind of glad I'm waiting to purchase the console for a while. Maybe they will fix these problems by then.

They wanted to make sure they had all the information required to make a short article beforehand.

jason103: actually, that's not true. Satoru Iwata told us in a video released to the public weeks ago that most of this functionality would come from a large day one update that would take a long time to update. He apologized in advance.

For folks like me with unreliable internet connection, this is going to be shit.

def purchasing this console later along the line unless there are even more patches to download along the line - now THAT'S what I call a firmware update! D:

The update goes slow not only because its HUGE, but so many people are downloading it at the same dame. I think the only 'main' update coming down the line is the TVii update in December,

not talking about speed; I'm referring to my connection suddenly going out because it has a bad habit of doing that at least once a day.

Took me ages to finish this update. My net isn't the greatest these days, but it was definitely a problem on Nintendo's end this time. Took literally about a hundred stop-starts (it kept failing) to accumulate the entire thing.

Consider the strain being placed on their servers though, release day, with a huge firmware update. It's balls, but what can you do?
