Ubisoft revealed today that in their upcoming Splinter Cell flick, Sam Fisher will be played by Tom Hardy, whom most of you might remember as Bane in Dark Knight Rises. Yeah, that guy.
He isn't exactly who we had in mind when we're thinking of Sam Fisher, but if we squint, the resemblance is kind of there. Recently, Hardy also starred in Lawless, Warrior, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Apparently, his next gig is as the lead in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, commented:
“Tom Hardy is one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills. His involvement in the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike.
"In addition, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers today. We’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story for the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell movie, while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans.”
Ubisoft has a number of game-based movies in the works, all being handled by the studio's very own, in efforts to prevent another Prince of Persia. Ubisoft hopes to begin filming Assassin's Creed next summer, with Michael Fassbender already cast as the lead man.
