The next Mass Effect game is already under way, and while details are pretty scarce on it, BioWare has revealed a few pieces of information. For starters, the new Mass Effect game will be built on the Frostbite 2 engine, just like Battlefield 3 and Dragon Age III, and is going to be made at BioWare Montreal. Casey Hudson is still the Executive Producer, but there'll be a Project Director at the Montreal studio making everyday decisions.
BioWare's Yanick Roy, the Studio Director at the Montreal location, had the following to say about the new game:
The other thing I can tell you is that, while it will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games, with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts. You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling.
All of those sound like worthy aspects to keep in mind for a new ME game, especially if other aspects of the lore are fleshed out. Maybe there'd be something on the Rachni Wars, the Krogan Rebellion, or something farther into the future not yet covered. The engine features many of the enhancements already made by the DA3 team, so everything should look fantastic regardless of what we experience.
Roy also said BioWare Montreal is looking to expand in order to have a large team working on the new Mass Effect game. New jobs should be added over time, so just keep an eye on the list to see if there's something you or someone you know can do.
