Grimdark If you're accepted into the beta or receive a key from a friend, yup. Will be fully free on release, supposedly, as well. Whenever that is.

So you're paying $30 to buy your way in if you didn't get accepted?

Grimdark and if you don't get a beta key as a gift from the overwhelming number of people trying to get rid of them (like myself). It is a good way of artificially limiting the access so that they can test their server capacity. The game is regularly one of the highest on the list of Steam's concurrent player count. Right now it is sitting 50,000 above the second game (TF2) in terms of current players. The peak level had a 100,000 player gap. These numbers have been pretty consistent lately and that is with a limited beta access. Just imagine when the game goes public and there is no price or other barrier blocking people from playing.
