Peter Molyneux talks Curiosity, claims he's working on his final game
Molyneux has lots to say less than 24 hours since Curiosity's release
Less than 24 hours after the release of 22Cans' "experiment" Curiosity, studio founder Peter Molyneux let loose, as he is wont to do. In an interview with BeefJack, Molyneux continues to be one of the most interesting personalities in game development, but this occasion happens to be a rather melancholy moment. Molyneux foresees the end of his career in gaming, even going so far as to say, "I'm only going to make one more game, I think."
At this point Molyneux gets rather abstract, almost as if he sees his next game as a spiritual event rather than an actual project:
"...that thought, the thought of every ounce of my energy, every ounce of my experience, every mistake that I’ve made in every single game. If I can learn from that, and use that energy to make one game, that’s what I’m trying to do."
Currently, however, Molyneux and his studio 22Cans are deep in the development of several experiments and aren't focused on a full-fledged game, yet. The first of said experiments was released a day ago, titled Curiosity, and is now available on mobile devices. The second experiment, tentatively titled Co-operation, is in the works.
It wouldn't be a Molyneux interview, however, unless he spiced it up a bit at the end:
"The scary thing is, we’re less than 48 hours away from another huge announcement. There’s all this Curiosity stuff, and we’re doing all this other stuff as well… it’s amazing. And it will be kind of live from Friday."
So check out 22Cans' Curiosity right now through the Apple or Android app store, as it's free and simply enough to get into. And make sure to look forward to later this week when Molyneux will reveal his "huge announcement" and something, something, goes live.

Wonder how much is left of it, and whether the person who makes it to the center will share it at all?
Considering it's Peter that's part of the project though, I wonder if it will be a huge letdown XD
Consoles having the ability to grow right before your eyes? Not so much perhaps. Leave area, enter some in-game days later, switch out the model of the baby tree for one of an old tree? Entirely possible, doesn't even eat up much RAM, just a negligible amount of loading time for the game to figure out "tree Y is at stage 3 of development, show model C".
I'd say "just like game X!" but really that's something that goes on in like, every game. Even in Fable 1, a similar checklist could probably be found in the code when you load into an area. "quest Y is at stage 3, show NPC C" sort of logic, the kind of thing that makes games not static universes, actually have some changes.
Either way, I wouldn't really hold Fable 1 over his head for the rest of his career. He's made some mistakes, and I personally don't find any of his recent work to be anything of interest, but he's not a bad guy from what I've seen. Calling him interesting doesn't seem like a stretch at all.

Well this game is... interesting but if the outside layer had 100 million cubes and if its solid that means the amount of cubes in this game is... A *bleep*ing lot... still 250,000 players mean even if everyone only does 400 a day then thats a layer per day. I just curious enough to want to find out whats in there. Or wait until the person who does screencaps it so we can all see.
It was on my Game Boy.
*Not trying to start a flame war, but none of the consoles have sufficient RAM to track environmental changes like a trees growth.
