I've read 2 books and I've got to say that I like Geralt from the game a lot better than Geralt from the books; in the books he has way too much angst. And Yennefer, the main love interest, is really a *bleep*ing bitch.

Not to be completely negative, I do like the world Sapkowski had created and how he meshes modern fantasy and classic fairy tales in this world.

The man is like 65 years old... most old people hate new-age things.

But whether the man likes it or not, CD Projekt is makin bank off his creation in a very new-age way lol

I want to know how far his tongue was in his cheek when he said all this. At least I hope that pixels not displaying proper context is what's happened here.

As a wannabe writer, I get where he is coming from. And it's a very, very stupid place, that he is coming from.

There is a very verifiable shit hierarchy, where "older" forms of media crap and those that are "below" (newer) have to take the shit. Literary types thing they are better than cinema lovers, who think they are better than video gamers. Even us, hardcore gamers, think we're better than casual gamers. It just happens.

Don't let what that guy says get to you, though. If he doesn't play games, then his opinion matters as much as film critic Roger Ebert saying that games will never be an art form.

I will agree that calling it idiocy does sound pompous and dramatically lessens the value of any praise he gave to the game.
Especially since that idiocy got him extra money and more global recognition.

quote Kh0rne
He has a point. There is something lost from book to game. Playing Geralt and reading about Geralt are two different things. So it's not ego he's pointing out a fact. The game is the interpretation of his work. This is the same reason Sapkowski refuses to make an actual map for the world, it limits him.
I'm not arguing his point. I'm arguing the way he makes it.

Now, maybe this is a lost in translation problem, that's been known to happen before. Maybe if he gave the interview in Polish it would sound better.

But speaking in the third person? " this can only be told by Geralt's creator. A certain Andrzej Sapkowski."

Claiming it can only be done with your specific ability? "this book is the result of the author's unique, inimitable talent,"

Claiming complementary media is "a pinnacle of idiocy," and mixing and converging media is "terrible?"

I have no problem with his stance. If he wants the Witcher games to be non-canon. That's fine. I can even understand the stance against cross media stories. But the way he says it here just sounds incredibly pompous.

Again, maybe it's a translation thing, but this sounds more like some one who thinks a little too fond of himself. You're a writer, buddy, not Ghandi.

I didn't really get the feeling he was trying to inflate his own ego, just that he wants fans of the series to understand the stories told in the games aren't canon. Basically, don't expect any future writings to be modeled after those adaptations.

Some one let his head and his rectum get a little too friendly.

If he doesn't want the games to be canon, that's fine. That's his right. The way he presents it though?

I've rarely read such self-aggrandizing statements in my life. "the author's unique, inimitable talents" "a certain [enter name here]" Yeah you can only get away with saying that when you're not talking about YOURSELF!

"Transfer a book into a virtual world? Funny,. It's impossible." I'm not sure what's bigger, this guy's ego, or his mouth.

Funny, Batman Arkham Asylum and City were perhaps the best comic adaptated games. They're praused as the best superhero videogames ever. And it was based on the comics.
