Final Fantasy XIV's transformation into A Realm Reborn is beginning, as Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida announced last week in a letter to the community that the reboot's alpha had begun. Content from the now in motion alpha is starting to be released by Square Enix, just to start the marketing campaign a little early. Today saw the release a character creation video, highlighting the changes made to streamline the experience.
The influence of the PlayStation 3 is readily apparent, as the new interface is designed around various scrolling systems. Having a list of what must be twenty or thirty customization options is rather daunting, and clumsy to boot, but at the same time it's better to have more options than less no matter how they're organized. Otherwise, in terms of pure visual fidelity, everything looks great.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is still a spell away from release, but in promising news Yoshida said current subscribers will begin to see new content leading into the upgrade starting November 11.
