G4 cancels X-Play, Attack of the Show as part of network's makeover
Possibly aiming to be more "upscale, sophisticated" channel
G4 viewers have about two more months to enjoy X-Play and Attack of the Show before both are taken off the air this winter. As part of G4's 2013 makeover, two of its longest running shows have been canceled, further distancing the network from the gaming scene.
Both X-Play and Attack of the Show will continue into December with a series of farewell episodes, until their finales.
G4 Media general manager Adam Stotsky comments:
"Attack of the Show and X-Play have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture. With more than 3,000 episodes aired between them, we have more than enough great material to honor these innovators and their amazing contributions as we bring both shows to a close."
Rumors regarding G4 TV's ongoing makeover point to an interesting direction. Sources are reportedly claiming the channel is teaming up with partner male-oriented Esquire magazine for an "upscale, sophisticated" direction. The name "G4Men" has been tossed around.
Some would argue X-Play had nothing left going for it after long-time host Adam Sessler left the show and G4 back in April. Still, news of its cancellation is no small thing. Both it and Attack of the Show served as starting platforms that elevated many industry figures to celebrity status -- for better or worse.

I would say rest in peace but G4 has been resting for about 4-5 years now. Maybe more.
