Far Cry 3 comes to Minecraft, Ubisoft releases free themed map and texture pack
Why haven't other games done this?
In what can only be described as a surprisingly brilliant move, Ubisoft is releasing a Far Cry 3 themed map and skin pack for Minecraft today. Let me back up and read that again. Ubisoft went out of their way to craft an entire map, including modifications to weapons, tools and environments, replete with key Far Cry 3 keypoints and characters. The mod is available now for download, if you're interested.
Ubisoft has confirmed that many of the key locations in the mod are also in Far Cry 3 and that the game's "psychopath" antagonists are also there, including: Jason, Citra and Vaas. There are also 50 "Easter Eggs" hidden across the island, though what exactly they mean by Easter Eggs isn't exactly clear. Perhaps hallucinogenic mushrooms?
All in all, I can't imagine a cooler marketing tool to build into Far Cry 3's release. Trailers, social media campaigns and all that jazz are fine, but this is a legitimate gameplay experience using free modification tools in a popular game that has nothing to do with Ubisoft. The project is unique, creative, and genuinely makes exited for both Far Cry 3 and Ubisoft's future. Look forward to Far Cry 3's release on December 4 in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Or, check out the Minecraft mod and see if the world fits your fancy.

I like it. Free, simple, and fun, as it should be.
Marketing done right.
EA, write this down. It WILL be on the final.
Overall, Ubi has shown a great deal of improvement as of late. They're at least giving lip service to reducing DRM, they're trying to shift more of their attention to PC (which they've been really bad with in the past), and now this.
They're really shaping up to be one of the better big publishers. Of course their primary competition is EA and Activision so take that for what it's worth.
It seems they like to try and make up for mistakes:
PS3 not getting SC: Conviction "Oh heres the first three in HD." No. PS3 users are still missing SC: Conviction.
PC almost not getting GR:FS. "Oh here's GR: Online...Oh wait we're releasing GR: FS now. We will still make GR: Online."
GR: FS DLC taking forever to be added to PC. "Here's an exclusive online pass that none of the consoles can get." and their matchmaking is broken at the moment anyway according to lots of people and the Arctic Strike map servers are dead too. Would somebody tell me otherwise?
Why are all their games taking longer to get to PC than PS3 and Xbox? Other companies can cope just fine with all 3 of them getting them on one date.
Has Ubisoft accepted a money contract from Sony for Assassins Creed to be more better for the PS3? Brotherhood with the Copernicus Conspiracy, Revelations with the original Assassins Creed (FREE!) and now AC III and the exclusive missions that i would pay for to get if i had to.
