The Warframe closed beta has officially begun, and to make sure it's all extra official, developer Digital Extremes even launched a site for their upcoming free-to-play online co-op shooter.
From the studio behind The Darkness II, this third-person sci-fi shooter sets itself apart from most online games by being completely cooperative, not competitive. In fact, the devs are calling their game more of an "MMO-lite" than a shooter. Players can team up with each other in small squads, as the endangered Tenno people. These sentient beings are losing a galactic war against the bloodthirsty Grineer, but now that they've discovered ancient weapons known as Warframes (read: high-tech body suits), the tables are about to be turned.
As of now, closed beta members are required to keep quiet about the game, and invites are going out to a "lengthy" list of VIP players -- basically anyone who referred three or more friends to the game. Once the devs are through with the list, beta invites will be issued at random to other folks who've signed up.
