the second dlc is, if I recall already done or very near complete with the 3rd one being halfway done already. The shady business is made even more shady and grey with Gearbox and the fact that they don't actually develop these dlc's. So these dlc's while being planned during the development of the base game could have also been started somewhere mid to late development but not by them as a result....not being a shady tactic?

It's a bit confusing since all Gearbox does in this situation is allow the content to be released while not really creating it (since their probably too busy with other games and possibly Borderlands3worlds) but yeah it explains why all these dlc's (bar Geige who was developed by Gearbox) are coming out so soon. DLC4 has already probably entered production and if they decide to (they did said it was possible in an interview) we may have more campaign dlc's to follow after 4 (I'm not talking cars dlc or extra costumes/heads dlc or even characters, I'm talking full blown campaigns).

That said, hype. So long as they leave the retarded lock-out raid bosses and make Seraph weapons available as random loot above or on par with orange and e-tech.

Ded Valve I've read some rumors about the separate developer doing DLC, but nothing concrete. Like, I know for a fact the lead writer for B2 did Scarlett, too. Maybe Gearbox is doing art assets, writing, etc and a 3rd party is handling the meat of it?

In the credits it gives credit to the developing team which isn't gearbox (the name escapes me) but they did this back since BL1. Both Zombie Island and Claptraps robolution weren't by Gearbox iirc but I'm sure Gearbox always handles the writing and characters which explains why every dlc in both games always has that Borderlands humor, as for the actual development, that's almost always outsourced.

I don't mind it since that means more dlc at a faster rate.

As long as this one raises the level cap I will be happy. I hit 50 around 2 weeks after release, and I want the quests I do to actually mean something, not just give me useless money and loot that for some reason while being higher level then my current equipment, feels like it was meant for a character 10 level lower.

I wouldn't mind not raising the level cap if they changed how sidequests worked. For example change how Eridium and Seraph Crystals work, like having certain weapon chests only open with a certain amount of Eridium and Seraph (rather than buy which goes against Borderlands nature). Since money is useless and Eridium is uselss once you max everything out and seraph is far to rare, having sidequests give you more eridium and more seraph while you waste those opening chests to get at least 1 guaranteed E-tech or Seraph item with a slightly higher chance for orange then I'd be much more invested to do sidequests outside of achievement hunting.

They should also allow us to re-enter Mad Moxxi's underdomes for a certain amount of Eridium. Seriously eridium has such potential but it's not being used at all and Seraph is just wasted on 2 lock out raid bosses which is stupid. I don't want to spend days to save up for Seraph to buy weapons, half the charm was looting. I really wish this dlc would give Eridium and Seraph weapons more use outside buying things.

Terra should also drop less eridium and require more to enter his lair, it's pretty stupid that it only costs 4 when he usually drops 15+.

Even if they don't raise the level cap, at least make the DLC worth my time other than just to get some achievements. I got one gun ONE through the entire scarlett and her pirates booty dlc that was better than my current gear, and the sad thing is that while I am level 50 most of my gear is all for level 42 or 43 and is better than the level 50 stuff I was getting from the DLC.

Hell even the Warrior I killed repeatedly isn't dropping better stuff then the junk I am using now, and I can't even attempt to kill Terra or Hyperius solo, and currently I can't play co-op due to connection issues.

The simple fact that the stuff in the dlc was so under-powered is what annoyed me, I loved the characters and the actual experience of playing it, just underwelmed by the loot, which was always so interesting in BL1.

So long as gearbox designs the bosses I don't care. Pirates booty was amazing bar 2 things
The bosses are terrible. Just terrible. Every last one of them.
Seraph weapons are a massive letdown.

No more locked out bosses and better weapons and it would have been much better.

Glad to see someone else who hates the simple foolishness of the boss design in the dlc. I liked the base ones like sandman and his big ass bodyguard, leviathan, those weren't bad.... Hyperius, *bleep* you.... just.... *bleep* you.

Leviathan was disappointing to say the least, not hard to fight, not fun to fight just bland. The loot was pretty meh as well.
Rosco was a MASSIVE letdown and I mean massive. He died before his intro cutscene ended and that was without the bee. Such a shame especially given BL1 did a much superior job.
Hyperious....HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA. No.
Gee....HAHAA-Double no.

Everyone else was pretty much forgettable. Not nearly as awesome as the boss fights in the base game or BL1. I don't know what they where thinking with the boss design but somewhere along the line they took some very good concepts and screwed them up massively.

If I where to compare the first DLC of BL1 to the first DLC of BL2

Zombie Island >>>>> Pirates Booty no contest. Hopefully the next DLC will trump Mad Moxxie's underdome (which shouldn't be too hard, but reports are saying that it's a vehicle based underdome rather than an actual campaign. Who knows, maybe that's just part of the dlc?)

Pirates Booty wasn't bad (bar the bosses and seraph weapons) but compared to Zombie's island which had so much more and was so much more fun, it felt kind of flat in comparison.

Ded Valve I haven't hit level 50 yet, can you go into a bit more detail on the Seraph Weapons/raid bosses? I'd like to mention the subject in my review.

Bluexy

The Pirates DLC was a very good dlc, not on par with Zombie Island I feel (which felt so much bigger, longer and had more to it) but good. The bosses on the other hand really sour the whole experience, pretty much every boss in that dlc is either forgettable, poorly designed or just plain horrible.

The new raid bosses Hyperious and Master Gee and new Seraph rarity are the worst of the bunch.

Hyperious at first seems cool, defeat his minion robots (that gives him an invincible shield) and then when his shields are down go out on him. This is ruined the moment you try, the robots have insane health and will use the invincible shield on themselves leaving Hyperious vulnerable (however you have to do this with ALL robots, leaving one will still keep Hyperious near invincible). This isn't so bad except when you do get the daunting task of finally doing sufficient damage to the robots Hyperious sends out a nova blast that is completely inescapable and has ridiculous range. RIDICULOUS RANGE (seriously Axe died during the fight and respawned in the safe place, he wasn't able to re-enter the fight unlike Terra and even though he wasn't in the fight very far away from hyperious in a completely different room his shields popped when Hyperious did nova, it's totally inescapable). They don't want you to use the bee instead want you to use a higher capacity shield but then they automatically scale Hyperious (and gee) to 4 players even if your playing solo offline which is a joke, without the bee you'll spend all day shooting at the robots and Hyperious chipping off damage little by little. Even with the bee he withstands a crapton (unless you abuse the Babymaker glitch and even then you'll need a special relic, the bee, an appropriate class mod and some luck).

So, he can instantly down you, he can pop your shields, he has 4x health regardless of how many players, his minions has homing rockets which do insane damage and also have 4x health (sometimes it feels like more) he has invincible shields and overall it feels like you never get anywhere. He's not a challenging boss, I've played challenging bosses before and enjoyed them greatly, he is cheap and tedious to fight and now I only fight him using the baby maker abusive technique. He also goes beserk when he's at half health granting him better speed and damage and then he jumps around (halo style) and wtf falconpunches you into oblivion. He can't be solo'd without extremely top tier equipment and very specific builds and even with a team he's unbelievably cheap.

Master Gee on the other hand is the epitome of tedius. He is invincible to all your attacks yet this is offset by the fact that he's extremely slow and his attacks can be dodged by moving 2 centimeters to your left. This isn't so bad, the only way to damage him is to kill these worms that spawn ever now and then, they drop acid and you have to get him into the acid (he'll follow you constantly) and keep him in the acid to absorb it. The problem is that after the initial 5 absortions he barely takes any more stacks meaning that for the next 45 minutes you just play ring around the rosie. You don't shoot, you don't do any real tactics, you kill 5 worms get him to absorb 5 times then run around, you could kill more worms but then you'd have to go through the trouble of getting him to absorb acid and it'll do a little more damage but that wears off after a few seconds and then it goes back to the 5 stacks of acid that stay with him permanently. If you find running around for 45 minutes fun, then Master Gee is the most amazing boss of all time. If you actually like to use tactics, figure out Gee's weaknesses then use those weaknesses against him look elsewhere.

They should take a page from Dragons Dogma's book, I can't tell you how many times I died in that game because I didn't know what to do but the bosses have a weakness and if you take your time you can really exploit it and even then they still offer a challenge, they where enjoyable and most of all rewarding. The raid bosses in this dlc are abysmall AT BEST, no real tactic since for every weakness you exploit, they come up with a ridiculous cheap method to down you (in the case of gee, he's no threat at all, the worms are the true threat. THE WORMS, who also has ridiculously high health). The concepts around these two bosses where really interesting but I'm assuming the developers (whoever made this dlc) got butthurt about the bee and farming (and gearbox specifically said at one point that farming and Borderlands goes hand and hand) and tries to stop both. Thus the cheapness of the boss TRIES to thwart the bee but fortunatley people came around it and found easy ways to kill both. gee is easy to kill but even using a "cheat" (their the ones cheating technically) will take you about an hour and a half at best of either ring around the rosie or hiding behind a rock. It doesn't matter.

They are also glitched, sometiems they don't drop loot, Gee is known for freezing on all 3 platforms (I fought him 5 times and in all 5 times he froze after death each time, I still can't turn in the quest) and they don't drop loot.

Now Seraph weapons (boy this is a longass post)

Seraph weapons are a new rarity above Orange, okay too bad they suck. The only decent Seraph item are the Relic (which gives you 1% regen/sec) and the shield. The weapons are at best weaker than my level 40 weapons and the red text they do are novelty and don't really effect how the weapon behaves. They won't replace your orange, hell they don't even replace certain blue weapons! Not only that but they cost 150 seraph crystals to get. Guess where you can find the crystals? Only from Hyperious and Gee. Guess how much they drop? 9. 9 for Hyperious and 9 for gee (assuming you don't freeze or he even drops anything). Did I forget to mention that these are 1 day lock out bosses? You can ONLY fight them once a day even offline. So lets say you defeated hyperious now you want to help out your friend? hahahah NO. You have to wait till tomorrow. So you have to farm these bosses for weeks just to get 1 weapon that is exteremely underclassed. I was finding much better weapons at level 40, and the quest rewards you get in this dlc alone outclass Seraph in every way imaginable. This is Gearbox's way of keeping an ultra rare item but they suck. Not to mention the bosses are not rewarding, once you kill them at best they drop a blue weapon, MAYBE a crappy purple if your lucky. Compare that to Crawmerax who at half the effort (fighting legitimately) dropped tons and tons of oranges and maybe even a Pearlescent. Terra has better drops than Hyperious and Gee.

Tl;DR - Bosses are cheap and stupid, don't drop anything worthwile, seraph weapons are too expensive and are at best on par with your blue/purple weapons.

Sorry for the long post, I really like this dlc but these are the two biggest problems (among others this dlc has). It's a good dlc but after getting stuff like General Knoxx and Claptraps robolution I thought Gearbox had learned a lesson, guess not. Raid bosses should be difficult, genuinely difficult and should drop useful stuff, not white and greens and probably a 1 purple grenade that does nothing.

Bosses and loot are so terrible that only the delluded can protect them as "good bosses". Loot overall in BL2 has been pretty crappy compared to BL1 once you reach level 50. Let's hope that changes next dlc with amazing weapons that make me stare at my inventory screen for 20 minutes deciding which gun I should equip.

EDIT: Thank god for this new Forum/news thread link. For some reason this comp. doesn't work with the "post" button on the news version, only forums.

Oh and you should know that on the official gearbox forums they are banning everyone trading seraph weapons because your not able to get them legitimately yet, even though you CAN (if you have one friend solo hyperious then invite another friend after killing him both get the loot. You can do this as many times as you want, These developers don't want you to farm they yet they missed such an obvious flaw). As such I am giving away ALL my seraph items away to anyone that wants it, including the GB forums
