Day-Z standalone version screens debut, feature house interiors

Ooh la la

The first set of screenshots are in for the upcoming standalone version of Day-Z, and they feature house interiors. Normally this would be boring as all hell, but it's confirmed that unlike in the mod version of the game, you'll be able to actually enter buildings in this one, including sheds.

Developer Bohemia notes the shots are a work in progress with only "basic" texture and lighting work done. Nevertheless, they look damn fine already if I dare say so myself -- and this is just on "Normal" settings.

The conundrum the developer now finds itself in is balancing the desire for increased performance with the desire for increased building detail inside cities. Suffice it to say, it sounds like some sacrifices will be necessary.

It's WIP, so they're just showing that "yes we're doing work" to make sure people realize it's not a project fading into nothingness.

If they are so worried about balancing textures/details, why don't they just, you know, add graphics options? No doubt those with powerful enough PCs will be able to put it on high detail. (If nothing else, they could release a higher resolution texture pack as free add-on content).

Unless they're just having problems optimizing it due to inexperience or something, of course.

Really not all that impressed to be honest. Now I get that this is just a standalone version of the mod but I played the mod to death, personally it would have helped me engage with the game more had it felt fresh and new, this doesn't give off that feeling.

Grimdark The lighting is like that probably because so the people can see it. Its still WIP you know.

but... you could already enter all sorts of buildings in the mod version: barns, houses, churches, police stations, supermarkets, apartment buildings... lots of good loot there.

and those graphics kinda look like a high-res ghost recon 1.
