More SimCity trailers is never a bad thing. Maxis has released the newest trailer for their upcoming reboot of the SimCity franchise, in which four disasters are showcased. The trailer plays out like a classic 80's scared straight video. "Don't be like Johnny, SimCity players, because Johnny didn't build any fire stations and look at his city now." Best of all, we get a look at just what a city looks like when mayhem and destruction breaks out. We're going to burn these cities to the ground.
The four disasters shown include earthquakes, meteorites, tornadoes, and the not so natural alien invasion. The process of destruction certainly seems well crafted, as in meteorites crashing through skyscrapers and earthquakes shaking apart factories, but the aftermath still looks like it needs work. Dark blotchy textures where buildings once stood need some polish, for sure. It'd difficult not getting excited about building (and destroying) cities again, though.
SimCity is still tentatively scheduled for release in February, 2013 for PC and OS X. There's still plenty of development and polish time left before this thing is finished, but it's already looking stellar.
