Despite the game proving it's a commercial triumph for publisher Bethesda by becoming the biggest new IP launch in the United Kingdom, Dishonored designer Harvey Smith has stated he'd be content if a sequel did or didn't come into fruition.
He explained that a part of him "would love to see future games leverage this world," while another part "would love it if the vault door was just closed and that's it. This is your one view into the Empire of the Isles and into the city of Dunwall."
Upon being asked for a more specific choice, Smith responded by laughing and saying, "I can't say!"
While it's refreshing to hear Smith suggesting something that isn't familiar in the industry, Bethesda, ultimately, is a company and will undoubtedly approve a sequel in a financial standpoint.
