My guess will be it will use a dynamic resolution, it will run 1080p for single player and maybe up to four players but will drop when its running 4 players plus gamepad. Hence why they posted this.

That, or they just don't want to make promises in case something goes wonky between now and launch.

Why would Nintendo care about the quality anyways? I'm fine if it has great gameplay which'll last me about 4 hours on my own and graphics, who can't live without them?

Could be, or it could have been over speculation. They might have assumed they could do 1080P but everything going on on-screen+the gamepad could have proven too much without sacrificing frame rate, so they just chose to lower the resolution.

Doesn't bother me one bit, theres no big jump from 720P to 1080P like there is from 480P. The resolution alone doesn't make a huge difference anyway.

Is it because of Wii U's graphical incapability to do that? or something?......

dang, if a game like this cant run at a native 1080p, very little will on the wii U. not all too surprising though.

720p isnt bad, but id love to see a metroid or zelda game in native 1080p (2.25x the pixels of 720p!)

hopefully the modding community cracks the wii u quickly - imagine a new metroid at resolutions beyond 1080p w/ all sorts of forced graphics settings... mmmmm

As we're heading into the next generation of Nintendo consoles, I'd expect at least 720p because it's the lowest HD quality.

Let's hope that you're right because the prettier the better, I say! It'd be nice to see some Ninty franchise in glorious 1080p, even if 1080p res is a novelty that doesn't mean a lick of difference for most people that own HTVs.

Most TV's these days are either LED or 3D, which shows great pictures, so I'm not fussed if Nintendo decide to go 1080p because I have a 3D TV myself.

The WiiU can graphically handle anything this gen throws at it and more with it's massive GPU. It's due to the fact that it has to render images twice given the WiiU controller that restricts it.

I'm not into good quality, because it's the gameplay and graphics I'm worried about, but I'd do pay a slight attention to quality.

As has been said above the screen is the limiting factor here. If that screen wasn't there then the power of Wii U could be comparable to a Playstation 3.5 it would be the center point between current gen and next gen. Not only that but visually it would mark a rather big upgrade, games would look a lot better but that screen is a leach sapping away at all the extra power the system does have.

It's a shame really as without that screen Nintendo would probably have an even better selling point, they would have a system that not only outperforms current consoles but has games so much better looking it would get the hardcore gamer vote instantly. What we have instead is a console with an interesting yet not exactly necessary controller that is leaching performance quite drastically.. This may not effect Nintendo this year but when the big boys arrive next year with their 10-15x more powerful systems, then their new Wii U will just look awfully dated.

Is 4 hours considered long in today's CoD world? Is 4 hours even considered a sufficient length for a game?

At least 4 hours for me, because I really don't wan the game to be as easy as NSMB2. A few hours and you've beaten the main game already. I hope that NSMBU has some minigames and Coin Battle Worlds. Those were fun as in the previous NSMB games.

No its not but I've heard many people talk about having beat NSMB2 in a couple days, which is what John234MKWii meant. I really don't think the campaign's length should be what a game's judged on, but the total amount of things to do. Look at games like Fallout that have rather short campaigns but you'll spend dozens of hours exploring.
