TBH I won't be upgrading to Windows 8 anyway, it just offers no reason for me to. The store could be a good way to offer digital downloads for software, but for games there is no real competition to Steam, Origin or Impulse (if people use that).

Even then the completely new UI does not hit me as desktop friendly. The OS keeps Explorer in a way but has taken away the startmenu.

What I hate about this is that Microsoft is only trying to appeal to Mac users by throwing in a store, Windows is fine without it. And that's pretty apparent by the sales of Windows computers today. If you say the main reason people buy Windows computers is because they're cheaper, then yes, that's why. You get something exactly the same as a Mac, without the gigantic budget.

Beh.

EDIT: I just realized that with Steam, Windows 8 will feel like X-Box Live, but free!

I've been reading hateful comments about this move at other places, but to me it seems perfectly fair. That is the Windows Store where games aren't allowed as mature.
But what's running alongside the Windows Store? XBOX Live Games, as well as the Games for Windows Marketplace within that.
The Windows Store is more for those games that are more basic, as well as apps of all varieties.

I agree with harbin91, for me personally, I really dont think Windows 8 will do good, yes there are improved things such as faster boot times etc but thrn again win 7 is the norm nowadays, I think win 8 is like vista, Microsoft rushed into vista and no their doing the same thing with win 8

TBH if they had kept the full explorer view or atleast have the Metro UI as an optional feature then yes it would've perhaps been worthwhile but even from a business point of view, the amount of time and training a business will have to spend, first getting their IT support used to the new interface and systems and the amount of time they'll then have to spend teaching the rest of the employees how to use it will not be worth it. Some businesses have only just upgraded or are in the process of upgrading to Windows 7 (my local college before I stopped working there had only just started a Windows 7 upgrade).

I too think some features of Windows 8 are good, but Windows 7s boot is fairly quick compared to past versions. Windows 8 needs more of an incentive. I think the UI is good for tablets, but that to me is just what they've done it for, and Apple have got some point, why a version of Windows for tablets/touchscreens (like what you have with Home Premium, Business, etc...) would've sufficed, or using Windows Phone 7 OS.

Windows 8 I'm sure is not a bad OS, just different. I have tried the Metro interface and found a transition to Mac simpler.

EDIT: Not sure if going offtopic a bit here.

Metro UI is optional though iirc, from what I've heard you can't boot directly to a conventional desktop anymore, but you can flip to it once you're loaded.

Either way I'll be quite happy sticking with Win7, 8 doesn't have any announced features that I'm dying to have.

More like features that you'll never actually use, and will just use up your ram.

I still need to get Windows 7 soon, I have Vista atm. But I'd take Vista over Windows 8 any day at least, man it looks horrible to me. D:

Like harbin91 said, I'm sure the OS isn't bad, but I don't like the whole interface. It's how the phones look and stuff, I never used a Windows phone before, but bleh.
