The semifinals for the League of Legends World Championship, after a delay due to technical reasons over the weekend, are set to begin once more this evening. Despite a certain amount of controversy and confusion, Riot has decided that there will be no changes to the remaining games. There no announced punishments or remakes, despite initial Riot word to the contrary. CLG.EU and WE will play their third and final match, followed by the two semifinal games today, starting at 5PM PDT.
Here's the official schedule, to begin at 5PM PDT and to continue until all games are completed:
- Quarterfinal - World Elite vs. CLG.EU (current standing is 1-1 in a best of 3)
- Semifinal - M5.BenQ vs. Taipei Assassins
- Semifinal - Azubu Frost vs. TBA (winner of remaining quarterfinal)
In response to the allegations of mini-map viewing, Riot wants to assure everyone that they're creating a "level playing field" for the remaining games. Teams will be in separate rooms for the games today, and for Saturday during the finals Riot is constructing an overhang to prevent player from looking at overhead screens.
Initially, VP of eSports, Riot RedBeard, said that CLG.EU and WE would be playing all of their games over again, but the official word has since changed:
"I previously announced we’d be conducting a new best of 3 between Team WE and CLG.eu. However, given new feedback and considerations, as well as conversations with both teams, we’ve reversed that decision. WE and CLG will be concluding the one remaining game of their best of 3 match on Wednesday.
The winner of this quarterfinal will have to face intense competition in the Semifinal match that same day, and given the late start time necessitated by event preparations, a new best of three could result in some very late games. We’re concerned about fatigue and a poor experience for all teams and players involved. Additionally, the two games on the scoreboard in the existing best of 3 completed without incident, so we believe they should stand."
All games will be live streamed in HD, and while there won't be a live audience today, the show will be back in full on Saturday for the finals. Tune in at 5PM PDT and check out the streams here: Official, Twitch, Own3d.
