Oh jeez, oh man, it's finally happening. Retro City Rampage now has an official release date, and it's so soon that there's no way it can be delayed any further. October 9 is the date, next Tuesday for the calendar impaired like myself. The catch, however, is that the game will only be releasing on PS3, Vita and PC initially, and the XBLA and WiiWare releases will have to be delayed.
It's well known that Microsoft and Nintendo have higher expectations for licensing downloadable titles on their platforms. It's likely Brian Provinciano from Vblank was trying to work things out for a same-date release on all platforms, judging by the delays, or maybe even an initial exclusivity deal. That looks like it hasn't panned out, but it does mean some platforms will get the game very soon.
Retro City Rampage is a top-down, open-world action game that has more references to retro games than any one nerd should be able to remember. It's comes to PC, PS3 and Vita starting October 9, plus PS3 and Vita only require one purchase -- it's cross-play. Expect a launch trailer leading into the game's release. Oh yeah, it's made almost entirely by one guy, developed across more than 7 or 8 years, and only costs $14.99. Lend your support if you can, rampagers gonna rampage.
Did I mention how epic Retro City Rampage's soundtrack is? Really epic. Like, totally epic. I'm all aflutter.
