Day 1 of the League of Legends World Championships went off without a hitch, and the pool of 12 teams has shrunk down to 8. Luckily enough, that's the perfect number for an old fashioned quarterfinals, which will begin today at 12PDT, 3EDT. Three face-offs in a row, each a best of three games, and the final quarterfinal match will be tomorrow morning. Day 2 of the World Championships is less than an hour away!
The remaining 8 teams include two from Korea, two from China, two from Europe, a Taipei team and only one remaining North American team -- Team Solomid. It's literally anyone's game at this point, as many of these teams have never faced off against each other. Expect some of the best games of the season.
- Moscow Five (Europe) vs. invictus Gaming (China) - 12 PDT, 3EDT
- Taipei Assassins (Taipei) vs. NaJin Sword (Korea) - 2 PDT, 5 EDT
- Team Solomid (North America) vs. Azubu Frost (Korea) - 4 PDT, 5 EDT
Surprisingly, since matchups were randomly chosen, no two teams from the same region will meet each other in either the quarterfinals or semi-finals. This is perfect for fans, because it means we'll be seeing meta-clashes in nearly every match. Which teams can capitalize on learning their opponents strategies may end up deciding the tournament.
With a $2,000,000 prize pool there's a lot on the line. It's potentially the biggest eSports tournament in gaming history. Check out the free HD live stream now and cheer on your favorite League of Legends team (Official, Own3d, Twitch).
