Despite the poor critical reception it has faced, as well as launch problems and fan backlash, Capcom has announced that initial worldwide shipments for Resident Evil 6 has exceeded 4.5 million units for the publisher.
In doing so, Resident Evil 6 has become the biggest shipping game in Capcom's history, with predecessor Resident Evil 5 shipping 4.4 million units back in 2009.
Earlier during the year, Capcom said they expect the latest installment in their flagship franchise to ship upwards of 7 million units by the end of their fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2013. So far so good, then.
It should be noted, however, that shipped doesn't mean sold to consumers. The former term means a publisher has sold a certain amount of units to retailers, who then distribute it to customers. So, it'll certainly be intriguing to see the NPD sales report in November in regards to how many units Resident Evil 6 manages to actually sell.
