Not practical for off-road and long-distance traveling purposes...

Interesting concept! I actually had the chance to work on a program for the Kinect to be used as my senior project and there is alot of potential for the peripheral. Would be interesting if this ever makes it to an actual full-on model and what they could possibly do with it.

What if you get fat? What if you lose weight? What if you're in a terrible accident and your face is left horribly disfigured?

I'd prefer a 'Hydrogen-fuelled cell' car with oridanry size than this diminutive size car with no safety for roads and crash.
P.S. Hydorgen is the most abudant form in the universe, so only hydorgen cars with no CO2 are ideal for folks after 2035 or so....

Thats pretty cool I think. It could eliminate distractions like fiddling with the radio or help keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road by having things the turning signal voice activated. Imagine some day being able to have things you can say faster than you can do during an emergency automated or the car even recognizing its been in an accident and automatically calling for help.

Not to mention the anti car theft system the user recognition would provide.

yeah but we need electric cars until we figure out how to make reliable and good working hydrogen powered, fuel cell or whatever technology ends up winning. hydrogen is early on in R&D stages, i think there has only ever been 1 prototype so far that has halfway worked, so it will be a decade or 2 before they even begin to come out.

I for one hope face-recognition does not become a mainstay. I actually hate driving and usually let others drive my car to get me around.

I'm the opposite.
I hate letting people drive my car, and would rather be the one driving.

I'd love when "hey man, can I borrow your car?"
I can just be like, "Sorry- the facial recognition won't let you..."

It's the reason I drive a tiny car, and not a pickup. No one wants to borrow it to move furniture.

I don't see really see the need but it's cool technology I guess.

These 'smart' cars would be handy for big/tight cities like Paris, but I know you're much better off spending the extra gas money on a bigger vehicle if you're even commuting around Toronto every day. It's not worth the risk.

Rude_Boy_Loves_SKA, I'd never lend anyone my truck but when they ask for help moving I just tell them straight that I'll do it for what it costs in fuel plus half. (I usually don't make much because I can get it all in a trip or two, maybe I should charge more or leave the trailer at home?)

There are times I wish I had a smart car though. They're a just about a third the length of my truck and 2' skinnier. It would open up a world of new parking opportunities!

Haha, whats the point of owning a car if you prefer to let others drive it for you? I"m one of those people who enjoy driving and don't let others touch the wheel. XD Only certain people I do allow though...but I drive stick and most people don't know/bother to learn.

This pretty much sums it up for me. Including the manual transmission.

It's the best way to drive BlindSight. It keeps you entertained when driving long distances and you have full control of the car.
