Up to this point, Assassin's Creed has been a fictional retelling of our history. If George Washington becomes king, it would cease to be a retelling of our history and become a completely different, original timeline.

Well, lucky for you, this DLC is not part of the original Retelling of the history, just a side fun humor, which you take very seriouse.

Dragoon "What could have happened" is different than a complete branching in the timeline. Up to this point, Assassin's Creed has been a fictional retelling of our history. If George Washington becomes king, it would cease to be a retelling of our history and become a completely different, original timeline.
To me they are one and the same, at one point something changed. A decision was made that made George Washington the man we all know, to the man that he could have been. It sounds like you're taking this a little too personally because it's a part of American history, which I guess is fair enough but at the same time this isn't really something that should be considered other than a bit of fun. I doubt it'll be considered Canon to the main story at all. Maybe it's because I'm British and our humor stems from being able to laugh at ourselves, but I honestly cannot see a problem with this as DLC. If they made it as part of the story I might do since AC prides itself on historical accuracy, but it's not, so it's no problem.

The way I read the press release, they did not clarify that this is a complete side-project, non-cannon story.

"...all-new single-player campaign told through three episodic content packs that lets gamers experience an alternate history of the events following the American Revolution."

It reads to me as if this is just the next chapter of the alternate history they've created.

You mean that wasn't a true account of his time as president...?

Guys, i know George Washington as a "villain" sounds bad and seems to hit a little too close to home, but think about it..

He was unanimously voted for president, which i assume the Devs use as a point of major conspiracy in the story. The world would remember him as a hero, but the Assassins would know he cheated to get to the white house.

He frowned against political parties, which the Devs probably will use to show that he wanted no opposition.

He led most of the war against Great Brittian, which the devs will probably use to show that he wants to start his own kingdom of "Free" states which he will rule. It would also lead to the era of Abstergo through "free market capitalism" and "democracy". The false freedom which Abstergo wants to create is oerfect in America.

And dont get me started on the secret organizations like the Masons...

Guys its freaking awesome what the developers did! Its creative and beautifully fits many conspiracy theories.

bluexy, the article directly quotes one of the producers as saying "While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened." While it's true that both the core game and DLC do take their own liberties on our known history, the fact that the producer felt the need to point out that the DLC looks at what "could have happened" pretty much tells us that it's just for fun and won't tie into the larger story.

jkoftekian I'm hoping it's as you say, a subtler take on Washington being a villain. That image though... I hope it's just a jokey teaser. Washington all straight up tyrant that doesn't give a damn, crown and throne and gestapo guards...

As an alternate reality that honestly makes the best sense. They can toy with it and basically make history take a whole different turn as to what could've been.

I read this yesterday with great excitement, and yet met with heavy, heavy hearted.
I mean, it depend on the edition you buy here, it could be anywhere from $80 - $120 (being conservative) and now we'll have to add an extra $30 for this so called Season Pass, which could end up costing us more than $30, if that's what is charged everywhere else around the world. =(
