Recent job adverts for DICE has revealed the developer could be working on a multiplayer-based Battlefield title for mobile and handheld platforms.
A total of three job ads reveals that the studio is seeking several "handheld" programmers to help "expand [the studio's products] outside the HD platforms and deliver the same quality experience on mobile devices."
DICE added that successful applicants will be part of a small team "within a major franchise" who will be responsible for the "development and growth of DICE's presence on mobile platforms."
One of the job ads states that the candidate will "design, develop and support online features such as authentication, matchmaking, server browser, statistics, etc. for DICE's future products". Another says successful applicants will work on "all aspects of the user interface concerning the application front-end, e.g., End-of-Round Screens, score boards, server browsers, etc."
Meanwhile, experience of at least one mobile platform -- iOS or Android -- is a requirement..
If the existence of a mobile DICE-developed Battlefield title is true, this would mark the first time the studio has created a game for mobile/handheld platforms. The iOS version of Mirror's Edge was developed by IronMonkey Studios, while Battlefield 3: Aftershock was created by Digital Legends Entertainment.
As well as the unannounced mobile title DICE is working on, the studio is also working on Battlefield 4, which is due to ship between April 2013 and March, 2014.
