So how much does this lose Microsoft, as opposed to gain of the end user?

2% on typical expenditure (say £100), is £2 saved. Nothing, basically. And yet say 500,000 people on Xbox spend that on the marketplace each year, costing them £1m? This costs them money for no actual benefit I can see.

That is actually pretty cool, especially the fact that they are willing to send you a little something on your birthday

Well to be able to qualify you need to have Gold which is extra, people will perhaps think about buying that add on because it's just a tiny bit cheaper and it helps create brand loyalty which is very much worth the cost investment.

Xbox Live Rewards is now gifting players by giving them rebates on Marketplace purchases, based on their Gamerscore. Gold members with more than 25000 Achievement Points get 2% back (in Microsoft Points) on Xbox Live purchases made each month. Gold members with more than 10000 APs get a 1% rebate, while all Gold members with 3000+ APs get a "special gift" in the months of their birthdays. We do note the fine print says the gift has an approximate retail value of 25 cents. But it's the thought that counts, right?

Microsoft teased a tie-in between Achievements and Xbox Live Rewards earlier this year, and now the company's made good on that tease. Still, we'd like to see those die-hard players with more than 50K or 100K worth of APs get some properly sizable rewards, something like 5 and 10% rebates respectively. At that rate we suppose Microsoft would have to reward the guy working up to one million APs with everything on the Marketplace. Which he must already own anyway.

Finally to note, Gold members must sign up to the Xbox Live Rewards scheme to get the bonuses. Otherwise you'll have to make do with measly real-life birthday presents.
This is disappointing, although it is better than nothing I was expecting to be able to get Microsoft points out of getting achievements but a man can only dream. The percentage that you get back is only worth it if you spend alot of money on XBL, which I personally don't. I went ahead and took a picture of their page and added it to the post so you guys can see it being advertised on Xbox Rewards.

That's pretty cool. So mine should be Legend as well because my Gamerscore is 62,000 something (cannot remember the last three numbers). It's pretty nifty feature, but I don't expect to be buying much except for DLC and the release of Sonic Adventure 2 next week.

Roy - As interesting it is, like I said before they are just trying to get people to shut up that we should get rewarded for GS. Though, if it's someone's birthday next month I would love to hear about the item that they give for it.

That's awesome. It's not very sizable, but you can't complain about free rebates for playing video games.

I wonder if anyone would ever try making 365 accounts with 3000 GS just so they could get a gift everyday haha. Though it's probably just something like a birthday hat or a cake prop for your avatar.

There you go EricF. Your efforts are not in vain, slightly xD.

Seriously though I don't even feel this would be worth my time. But hey it is better than nothing.

Fury - Just having 12 accounts would get you something every month. xD But I think it's only for gold members, I could be wrong though.

Oh haha I totally misread that. So yeah, just play Avatar, Fight Night, and King Kong 12 times and you could get a 25cent gift every month for the rest of your life. Totally worth it .

Is your birthday coming up., EricF? Tell us what you get! I'm sure it'll start popping up on the web sooner or later. Or I will just find out come November.
