Assassin's Creed III is fast approaching its release date on consoles, yet there are still two months to go before the PC version arrives. In order to make sure every PC gamer is ready for that day, Ubisoft has unveiled the minimum system requirements for Assassin's Creed III.
Minimum System Requirements
Supported OS: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core2 Duo E6700 or 3.00 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ or better recommended
RAM: 2 GB (4 GB recommended)
Video Card: 512 MB DirectX 9.0c-compliant with Shader Model 4.0 or higher (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c-compliant (5.1 surround sound recommended)
DVD-ROM: Dual-layer drive
Hard Drive Space: 17 GB
Peripherals Supported: Windows-compatible keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
Multiplayer: 256 kbps or faster broadband connection
Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
AMD Radeon HD 3870 / 4000 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series or better
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT / 9 / 100 / 200 / 300 / 400 / 500 / 600 series or better
One of the biggest things to take away from all of this is the operating system requirement does not list Windows XP. The previous games did, and even though AC3 needs DirectX 9, Windows XP users have been left by the wayside. Microsoft is retiring the venerable OS in 2014, so perhaps this is another reminder to upgrade.
All other aspects of the minimum requirements are pretty easily obtained. The hard drive size is rather large, but it is pretty common today as many games are taking up more and more space. Ubisoft notes the video cards listed are the desktop versions, and while laptop ones could work, they are not supported. A one-time online activation is also required, but AC3 is playable offline since Ubisoft has officially dropped its always-on DRM.
Assassin's Creed III arrives on October 30 for PS3 and 360, with PC users getting it on November 20.
