Keiji Inafune unveiled his studio's next game today, a zombie/ninja/mech title by the tentative name of YAIBA. Details surrounding the project are scant to nonexistent, including which platforms the game will be coming to, but that won't stop Inafune from showcasing a trailer that should have a majority of gamers very excited.
The self-branded "zombie game creator" says he decided to develop YAIBA after some "intense soul-searching":
"Everywhere I go, people ask me, ‘When is it coming? There are so many zombie games out there, yet people ask me for a new Inafune zombie game. I am grateful for people’s respect for me as the ‘zombie game creator’ and to fulfill that I must answer their expectations with YAIBA. "
If Inafune believes he can meet fan expectations, then he must have some serious confidence in YAIBA. It makes you wonder what exactly the game will be about, and how it will play:
"I am not at freedom to disclose the details just yet. But I am confident you will enjoy this new concept consisting of zombies with action, ninjas and mechs."
Whether or not YAIBA turns out to be as exciting and fun as Inafune is pitching, it's great to see one of gaming's biggest names feeling inspired to create once more. The guy had significant involvement in the Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Onimusha, Lost Planet and Dead Rising franchises. After seeing his disappointment grow at Capcom, his new energy at his independent studio comcept is great to see.
Expect more news on YAIBA in coming months, and be sure to check out the great announcement trailer. If we had to guess, we'd say YAIBA is a console game (not mobile, like comcept's other game in development), and might be downloadable. You can be it will come to PS3 and Xbox 360.
