PlanetSide 2 gets $40 Alpha Squad pack, includes beta access, currency and more

PlanetSide 2 might be free, but players can fork over real money if they're looking to get ahead. Sony Online Entertainment is offering the PlanetSide 2 Alpha Squad Package, which unlocks goodies like a long-term experience booster, SOE currency, and other in-game perks.

For $39.99, the Alpha Squad Package unlocks instant beta access and 4000 Station Cash (basically $40.00 in currency). The rest of your exclusives will be unlocked at launch:

• Exclusive permanent camo set, including matching vehicle, armor and weapon skin.
  
• A decal that you can use to distinguish yourself in battle.
  
• Exclusive title: Founder
  
• Six months of 10% XP and Resource Boost
  
• 12 weapon unlocks (each class and Empire combination)
  

The listing in in USD but you don't actually need to be in the US to purchase the content pack. The Alpha Squad page includes a disclaimer for European buyers: "Balance will be converted into ProSiebenSat.1 Games' Seven Cash currency when PlanetSide 2 launches."

If you're wondering when launch is, SOE is sticking with "before December 31, 2012."
