Rovio's follow-up to Angry Birds is announced -- it's Bad Piggies, coming to iOS, Android and Mac on September 27. From there, Bad Piggies will also be released on Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC, but those platforms are yet to receive a release date. As far as gameplay details go, all that has been said is that Bad Piggies drops the slingshot and that the Angry Birds are nowhere in sight. Whatever sort of game will it be, expect lots of ladders, dynamite and pigs -- lots of pigs.
Teaser images on the game's Twitter and Facebook accounts all focus on a sort of messy construction, and one tweet in particular says, "Uh oh! Wrong building blocks? #badpiggies". This makes me believe we'll be seeing a sort of tower building game, perhaps like World of Goo, or a more simplified title for casual audiences. Perhaps it could be as basic as building the tallest tower you can without it falling over.
Rovio certainly isn't the sort of developer to leave a franchise in the dust without tons of content, however. Whatever sort of game Bad Piggies is, expect it to receive the same treatment Angry Birds does -- bajillions of levels, DLC, and merchandise out the rear. Expanding the universe of Angry Birds, however insipid that may seem, is a positive thing for millions of mobile gamers the world over.
