Whatever your disposition may be towards mobile games, or lead-in games for blockbuster releases, it's hard to argue that free isn't great value. Today Arkane and Bethesda released Dishonored Rat Assassin, a free Fruit Ninja style app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It's being touted as a way to "sharpen your teeth" for October's full Dishonored release, but really this is just a fun app to goof around with during a break at work. Err, maybe after work as this game's a little mature for the office.
Like most of these lead-in titles the actual gameplay description is rather vague. The press release talks about using Dishonored style abilities to "assassinate" plague rats, but obviously you can't match a console game's features on a handheld. Perusing the game's iTunes page reveals a completely different story -- the game appears to be a mixture of Fruit Ninja and Whack-A-Mole with plague rats. As in, rats fly out of pre-set holes and you chop and slice them with your daggers and powers. What.
So maybe you don't want to download the app for your little brother to play, but otherwise Dishonored Rat Assassin might be worth trying out just to get a sense of how disturbing the themes of Dishonored will be. Check it out now, it's free in iTunes.
