Next-gen portable market wasn't as hyped as much as say, the PSP so this is to be expected. I hate to be admit it (being the Sony-crazy I am) but the Vita really needs a lot more games; I know of people waiting out for Persona 4 Golden for their Vita. 3rd party support is really a must at this point.

So during the development of the handheld, when looking at opportunities and feeling out the competitions, somewhere down the line Sony realized and expected a massive flop yet did nothing to prepare for it and only made it worst?

It's not about the personal preference of the console at all, it's about that the vita is a colossal failure that the PSP is outselling, meanwhile the 3DS is getting a ton of support (even Capcom has 2 monster hunter games on the 3DS) whereas Vita has barely a handful upcoming games with little to no information on third party support.

And yet Sony was expecting this.

The NGP market in general isn't doing so hot anyways, mainly due to the iOS and Android market. That could mostly be the reason as to why both 3DS and Vita sales aren't doing so hot, especially in comparison to their predecessors.

There is NO WAY the Vita will sell the number of units to achieve their goal by next year (I believe it was said a few weeks back to be 10 million). that would be 650000 every month till next year.

I think having to share the market with their predecessors is also taking its toll. The Vita doesn't have very many system sellers compared to the 3DS yet, which is what makes upgrading worth while. People aren't going to see it worth $250+ just to play their psp games on the vita. If they have alot of umd games they would probably rather but a new psp and wait for the Vita to drop in price anyway. Hopefully things will pick up when COD, Killzone, and the rest come out, theres also Black Friday/Cyber Monday coming up too.

Boreas I still remember when the DS first came out. In terms of poor early timeframe sales, the contributing factor was that the original DS had horrible marketing prior to release. When the DS started to get a lot more games on it and when the lite model was released the sales began to skyrocket. Let's just say the timeframe that the DS started to be a true portable game system contender is what I'm referring to in my previous comment

i love my vita but the price is to high to let a kid run around with it due to it dose not close the screans shut its a teenage deivce at best but they cant afford it.

other then that if you can own it and dont brake it its amazing

I don't think it's fair to compare DS sales at their prime to 3DS sales at their beginning

3DS had a rough patch but ultimately outsold the DS in a year, 3DS XL proved to be even more successful and with plenty of support from 3rd parties like Capcom and Squeenix (which aren't present on the Vita) it's safe to say that at the way things are going 3DS is going nowhere but up from here on out. Unless Vita bolsters down and gets some 3rd party support asap.

Ded Valve Well... Bleh. :L I only made that comparison because that's what felt fair to me. Early timeframe sales don't mean that much in the long run. There's always bound to be a lot more buyers from factors such as price drops, certain games etc.

But yes, when the Vita gets the 3rd party support it needs it'll be a valid completer vs. the 3DS. A price drop would be a suitable thing to do at this point, at least for the memory sticks >_>

Sales no matter what time frame are always critical. It was because of these early sales that Nintendo dropped the price and moved up many of their games like Mario kart and Mario 3d.


Sony unfortunately in no position to drop prices, unless they want to go bankrupt. What they need is big third party software but they seem hesitant to invest in vita.

Just look at capcom, they where all over the 3ds when it was announced with 2 resident evil games, a street fighter port and more on the way. The vita gets a marvel vs capcom port and then nothing but silence. Same thing with squeenix.
