Digital Extremes has released a new trailer for their Warframe shooter, explaining exactly what inspired them to create a co-op sci-fi shooter about exoskeleton technology and katana action.
Creative director Steve Sinclair appears in the debut dev diary, giving us a bit of background that went into Warframe's conception. Turns out, the most unique ideas can come from weird places. Sinclair notes that he saw the word "warframe" while flipping through history material and noticing some old World War II research by Boeing. Guess the company had previously explored the idea of putting World War II soldiers in exoseletons. We're thinking that didn't work out, but the idea for Warframe was born.
In Warframe, players become the Tenno, who have discovered these unique suits that only their race seems capable of using. The Warframes become powerful weapons in the ongoing fight against the oppressive, genocidal Grineer.
