Harmonix announced today that they'll be releasing a Facebook companion app for Rock Band Blitz and Rock Band 3, aptly named "Rock Band World."
Rock Band may not need a full online service like Resident Evil evidently does, though this app is pretty much the next best thing. Like all the multiplayer services we're hearing about, World acts as a sort of community hub, where players can collaborate and compete through Facebook. Community goals will be issued, and players can challenge friends to Score Wars.
Project director Matthew Nordhaus explains a bit:
“When designing Rock Band World we wanted to extend the player experience beyond the console in exciting new and social ways. By letting Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players link both Rock Band Blitz and Rock Band 3 to their large, already established social network, we’re opening up some great opportunities for competitive and collaborative gameplay. We can’t wait to start engaging the community with weekly Goals, and we look forward to seeing how fierce competition can get with Rock Band Blitz Score Wars!”
Blitz will be released on August 28 to PSN and August 29 on XBLA. If you're interested, make sure you've got a spare $15 or 1200 MSP set aside.
