Fan demakes are a tremendous form of free publicity for publishers as well as enjoyment for franchise lovers, so Gearbox has smartly gone and made one themselves ahead of the upcoming Borderlands 2 launch. The game -- dubbed "The Border Lands" -- is freely playable in your browser via the source link and does well to recreate the mechanics in a old style shell. Surprisingly, it's pretty fun.
More funny talky words from Claptrap on the matter: "Borderlands wasn't always the slick, handsome bastard it is today! Go old skool and play the 1989 16-bit original to see how it all began. I can't believe how young I look!" Only thing is there were no 16-bit games in 1989, but I digress.
